Drew Brees has long been known to be as good a person off the field, as he is a quarterback on the field. He and his wife Brittany are pillars in their community, and recently, helped an Air Force veteran get a service dog.

The Brees family sponsored a German shepherd mix named “Brees,” as part of the K9s for Warriors program. Last year, the couple attended Sean Payton’s Black and Gold Gala, and it was then that they decided to get involved in the project.

The dog is headed home to April Sandlin, a veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. In order to take the dog home, Sandlin had to train with the dog for 120 hours.

K9s for Warriors help those from the military who suffer from PTSD, a traumatic brain injury, or military sexual trauma. The program is designed to make the lives of the people who fight for our country better when they come home from war. A service dog can serve as not only a helpful animal but as a close friend for those struggling.

Brees is coming off an amazing 2015 campaign, where he threw for over 4,800 yards and 32 touchdowns. However, the team struggled to a 7-9 record, despite Brees and company having the best passing attack in the league. The team added Hakeem Nicks and Coby Fleener to the mix this off-season, which will give Brees two more weapons to choose from.

The New Orleans Saints will open up their 2016 regular season at home against the Oakland Raiders on September 11.
