With the non-waiver MLB trade deadline coming to a close on Monday, August 1st at 4 PM ET, here are five players that could still be moved via waivers.

Though slightly more complicated than the traditional moves associated with the non-waiver MLB trade deadline, players can still be moved even after the 4 PM ET deadline on Monday, August 1st. While some players that were thought to be on the market are still with their current employer, there is still a way that they can join a new club, via the waiver wire.

In layman’s terms, a player can still be traded even after the August 1st deadline if he is put on the waiver wire by his former employer. He can be claimed by any of the other 29 major league teams with the team with the worse record having the advantage in negotiations.

Should two teams put in a claim for a waived player, the team with the worse record of the two can acquire him via a trade on the waiver wire. These sort of trades through the waiver wire aren’t anywhere near as high-profile as many of the blockbuster ones often associated with the offseason or the late July deadline.

Teams that are somewhere between playoff contention or in the midst of a massive rebuilding can benefit greatly if they can find a way to orchestrate the right trade through waivers. Here are five players that could very well be moved via this type of transaction in August.
