The Cowboys are in search of another quarterback, and are reportedly targeting Josh Freeman.

The Dallas Cowboys suffered a blow to their quarterback group, as Kellen Moore went down with a broken right fibula. This leaves no backup with enough experience on the roster to be trusted. Dak Prescott, who was selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, would be next in line behind incumbent Tony Romo.

Well, the Cowboys are after someone to fill Moore’s spot. According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, the organization is targeting Josh Freeman, who most recently spent time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2015, stepping in for the injured signal-callers.

Freeman would be an experienced backup for the Cowboys. While he hasn’t lived up to expectations as a first-round pick in 2009, there’s been past production to indicate he can step in. This includes a 4,065-yard season in 2012 with 27 touchdowns.

Someone is needed behind Romo, especially with his recent health woes. He has dealt with recurring collarbone issues that limited him to just four games in 2015, and six in 2010.

Bringing in Freeman would also allow Prescott to sit back and learn. He could use a potential multi-year development before stepping in for Romo down the line, who’s at age 36.

So, we’ll see if the Cowboys decide to bring in Josh Freeman as training camp progresses. He may be one of the better options available.
