According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, long-time offensive guard with the New Orleans Saints Jahri Evans will make a visit to the Seattle Seahawks camp on Friday morning. Evans remains an unrestricted free agent.

Evans is a six-time Pro Bowler (2009-14) and a four-time first team All-Pro (2009-12) in 10 NFL seasons, all with the Saints. He was selected in the fourth round out of small Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Evans was a key piece on the Saints offensive line for years, helping New Orleans win Super Bowl XLIV over the Indianapolis Colts at the end of the 2009 NFL season.

While he is 32 years old, Evans still probably has a good bit left in the tank. Frankly, he just became too expensive for the Saints into his early 30s. He did sign a seven-year, $56.7 million contract back in 2010 to make him the highest paid offensive guard in NFL history.

Given that Evans is likely a future Pro Football Hall of Famer and one of the five best players in Saints’ franchise history, he would fit in wonderfully with the Seahawks’ organizational culture and improve what has been a lackluster offensive line in recent years.

Feeling slighted by his former employer and if he is in football shape heading into NFL training camp, signing Evans off the street might be a very pragmatic move to help the Seahawks contend for its third trip to the Super Bowl in four seasons. The best thing Seattle can do is protect quarterback Russell Wilson in 2016. Evans would absolutely help in that regard on the interior offensive line.
