Recap and results from Turkey vs France in Olympics women’s basketball action on Saturday, August 6

Both Turkey and France are two teams that could be vying for a medal in Olympics women’s basketball for the 2016 Rio Olympics. However, both teams have to make it out of the group play in the preliminary rounds for that to happen and they started off that stage of the competition on Saturday inside Youth Arena.

Despite the fact that France were the favorites in the matchup, Turkey came out firing early on in the contest. The Turkish women jumped out to a big 16-8 lead after the first quarter thanks to a dominant performance on the interior and a sleepy looking performance from France.

However, there were still three quarters left in the contest and the French women made use of that as they started getting their offense in rhythm in the second quarter, turning the game on its head by allowing only three points in the period and ultimately taking a three-point lead into the half.

In the end, Turkey couldn’t do anything to overcome that deficit in the second half as France only added to their lead. France ran away with it in the fourth quarter to secure the opening victory in Olympics women’s basketball action, 55-39.
