Joey Bosa remains unsigned by the San Diego Chargers, and his mom is looking for him to get off the team.

Joey Bosa’s contract situation with the San Diego Chargers remains at a standstill. Despite being drafted No. 3 overall in April’s draft, the two sides have yet to reach a deal. He’s the lone first round pick unsigned as NFL teams head into training camp.

Well, things certainly are not getting better for Bosa and the Chargers. The defensive end’s mother spoke out about the situation in a Facebook comment, as reported by the San Diego Tribune. She said, “It bums me out for him so much,” she wrote to a friend. “Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day.”

The “Wish we pulled an Eli Manning” goes back to the 2004 NFL Draft. This involved the Chargers, who selected Manning first overall. However, he did not want to play for the organization. A trade with the New York Giants would be made, which involved No. 4 overall pick Phillip Rivers, and other compensation, going to the Chargers.

Bosa’s situation contrasts. He wasn’t the first overall pick, doesn’t play quarterback, and has extended this holdout for nearly four months. A trade hasn’t seemed imminent, but if things don’t progress soon, there could be an issue.

There may already be a problem if and when the former Ohio State Buckeye signs a deal. He’ll report to camp months behind everyone else, which will be difficult for him to land a starting spot. It may not look good in the locker room either, with players not looking to have their spot taken by a rookie who won’t accept a contract.

Joey Bosa’s situation is one worth monitoring with preseason games starting soon.
