DraftKings MLB Picks: Bargain Bin Plays August 8th
DraftKings MLB Picks: Top Bargain plays for August 8th
Finding value can be the ever so elusive, “Holy Grail.” Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to provide a handful of players that could provide critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLB picks.
Monday night’s slate features nine games, one of which is being played at Coors Field. That being said, there are a few teams that are much closer to the normal team totals at Coors Field. Texas has the highest team total at 5.3, but St. Louis (5.3), Milwaukee (5), Toronto (5), LA (4.9), all have fairly comparable projections. St. Louis is stands out as a team that is vastly under priced while being tied for the highest team total on the slate. From a pitching standpoint, it appears as if you’re going to want to fit Jose Fernandez into your lineup, but at his steep price ($12,800), here are some bargain players you should consider.
Next: Top Value Plays
Greg Garcia – STL (2B/SS) – $3000
Garcia is facing a lefty tonight, but his splits this year have been relatively neutral and he actually has a better wOBA against lefties at .381. If he’s hitting in the two hole, he’ll be a great value play.
Hyun-Soo Kim – BAL (OF) – $3400
Kim will face off against Graveman (R) tonight, in a juicy match up. Kim has crushed righties with a .409 wOBA split and as long as he continues to bat near the top of the order, you have to take a look at him facing a righty.
Kolten Wong – STL (2B) – $2900
Wong is another beneficiary of a team with a high total in combination with his spot in the batting order. Any time a team is projected to score a good amount of runs, the batting order should be more heavily weighted. He’s facing a lefty, but similar to Garcia, his splits are neutral and if he’s batting first, he’ll be a viable cheap option.

Jedd Gyorko – STL (2B/3B) – $3000
Gyorko is one of the few with reverse splits, so this match up isn’t ideal. He makes the list strictly based on run projections, salary, and spot in the order. Gyorko, Wong, and Garcia will all lose value if they’re not batting in the top five. Make sure to keep an eye out for the Card’s lineup because mostly likely one of these players will not make it in the top of the batting order, therefore losing value.
Ryan Raburn – COL (OF) – $3000
Raburn hasn’t drawn a start since July 27th, and has been battling a left knee contusion, but hopefully he’ll find a spot in the lineup tonight. Cross your fingers that he does because Raburn can take advantage of facing a lefty. He holds a wOBA split of .413 and an ISO split of .284 against lefties. All of these players priced in the the low $3000’s are fairly under priced.

Note: Keep in mind that recommended plays are based off of early information and will be subject to change as lineups are released. Some cheaper players are more suspect to be scratched from the lineup or bumped down the lineup order. Follow me on Twitter @MattMcGarvey215, where I’ll try to update these plays the best I can!
