According to ESPN, Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors will have to wait to make their much-anticipated stop in Oklahoma City to face the superstar forward’s old team, with league sources pegging the  Chesapeake Energy Arena showdown for Feb. 11 of next year.

The big news comes as the official 2016-17 NBA schedule is set to be released within the week. Should the date hold, it will give OKC fans — and newly-minuted Durant haters — ample time to to score what promise to be some of the toughest tickets of the season.

Needless to say, the matchup promises to be one of the most interesting and intense of the year, why with Durant’s much-publicized decision to leave his longtime team and join forces with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and the 2016 Western Conference Champion Warriors.

Not surprisingly, the signing yielded plenty of frustration on the part of Thunder fans, with additional controversy arising around whether or not All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook was privy to Durant’s decision-making process.

Since the signing, Durant has been one of the standout stars for Team USA at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he’ll be joining Thompson and Green in a quest for the team’s third straight basketball gold.

Westbrook, meanwhile, now becomes the unquestioned leader in OKC, having recently signed a three-year contract extension to keep him with the Thunder — at least for now.

That said, much will be made of each and every scheduled game between these two powerhouses. The meetings in Oklahoma City should prove particularly interesting, as Thunder fans decide whether nine years of Kevin Durant brilliance were enough to salve the pain of basketball betrayal.

Who are we kidding? Dude’s gonna get booed. Savagely.
