After pulling off a world record deal, Manchester United released a statement on Paul Pogba’s transfer with quotes from him and manager Jose Mourinho.

The wait is over, Manchester United fans: Paul Pogba is going back to Old Trafford. After what felt like the entire transfer window, Pogba has joined Jose Mourinho’s team on a world record fee. Given how much other Premier League teams have improved, it’s possible that Manchester United intentionally dragged out this transfer saga so that they would dominate the headlines during the offseason.

But the news finally was confirmed on Manchester United’s website, although Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola spoiled it with a terrible pun:

All that needed to happen was for him to pass a medical, and once he did, he posed in his team’s new shirt:
The statement on Manchester United’s website includes a quote from Pogba that reads as such:
"[Manchester United] has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am really looking forward to working with Jose Mourinho. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Juventus and have some fantastic memories of a great club with players that I count as friends. But I feel the time is right to go back to Old Trafford. I always enjoyed playing in front of the fans and can’t wait to make my contribution to the team. This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to in the game."
As well as a quote from Jose Mourinho:
"Paul is one of the best players in the world and will be a key part of the United team I want to build here for the future. He is quick, strong, scores goals and reads the game better than many players much older than he is. At 23, he has the chance to make that position his own here over many years. He is young and will continue to improve; he has the chance to be at the heart of this club for the next decade and beyond."
Some people might say he’s not worth 89 million pounds, especially after they let him go for 800,000 pounds, but that’s not the point. Manchester United have a bottomless budget, and they signed arguably the best player in the world at the age of 23. He’s won everything at the domestic level for Juventus, and a move to Manchester United makes the most sense for him in terms of career progression.
If only United had realized that about Pogba when they first had him.
