Phelps will be swimming right next to rival Chad le Clos, the South African swimmer who took home the gold in the 2012 London Olympics. Phelps took the silver in London, as he failed to win his third straight gold in the 200m butterfly. The American will be in lane 5, with le Clos manning lane 6.

The two matched up on Monday night, with Phelps beating le Clos by a little over a second. The two will battle a tough field, one that includes two Hungarian swimmers with a lot to prove. Laszle Cseh won the World Championship in this event in 2015, and Tamas Kenderesi won the heat to advance to the finals.

The “Baltimore Bullet” has a long history in this event, as he made his Olympic debut in it during the 2000 Syndey Olympics. The 200m butterfly was the only event he appeared in during those Games, as he finished in fifth. Phelps won the gold in 2004 and 2008, before finishing behind le Clos in 2012.

Tuesday night will likely be the final time fans of the Olympian will be able to watch him compete for a gold medal in the 200m butterfly. Make sure to tune in at 9:28pm ET to see him make history.
