Olympics water polo wrapped its first day of Olympics competition on Saturday. In the first preliminary round, Team USA lost by two to Croatia. They return to action on Monday against Spain, who lost to Italy by one point. Team captain Tony Azevedo led USA in scoring, with two points. Alex Roelse, Alex Bowen, and Bret Bonanni each scored a point. The match was fairly even between the two teams up until the second half when Croatia launched an offensive and took the lead.
The host nation, Brazil, scored a big win against Australia, while France lost to Montenegro.
Next up on Monday, the preliminary round of the men’s tournament continues.
