2016 Rio Olympics men’s road cycling results from the time trial event on August 10 that watched Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellara win gold

Perhaps the most exciting event of the Olympics men’s road cycling competition was on full display to kick off Day 5 from Rio 2016 on Wednesday, August 10. The time trial event not only showcases the expertise of some cyclists, but also shows the overall ability of riders to put handle the different elements presented over the relative sprint in a much shorter span than the 250km races.

In terms of showcasing skills, there was no one on the course doing it quite like Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland.

The Swiss cyclist went off in the middle of the start times and didn’t have many great times to gauge himself by. Rather than that causing him to fall back into the pack or something of the sort, what that allowed Cancellara to do was set forth an absolutely blazing time in the Olympics men’s road cycling time trial.

Cancellara finished the course with a time of 1:12:15.42. As if that time itself wasn’t fantastic enough, it absolutely dwarfed his competition as the Swiss cyclist won the gold medal by almost a minute.

Coming in behind and joining Cancellara on the podium were silver medalist Tom Dumoulin of Netherlands and Tour de France winner Chris Froome of Great Britain. However, it was emphatically Cancellara’s day in Olympics men’s road cycling with the massive win and some gold hardware to hang on his neck.
