Day 1 of Olympic men’s rugby sevens was one of excitement. Tuesday began the first of two full days of pool play, in which the three pools of teams will compete.

In what was one of the more exciting days of the 2016 summer Olympics thus far, New England Patriots safety and USA men’s player Nate Ebner contributed towards the United States’ first ever rugby sevens Olympic victory on Tuesday, defeating Brazil 26-0. The match against Brazil was team USA’s second match of the day, narrowly falling to Argentina by the score of 14-17.

Trying to follow the lead of the women’s rugby sevens gold medalists, the Australian men were defeated by France in the first match of the day, before bouncing back to defeat Spain later in the afternoon.

Wednesday will be the final day of pool play for the teams, before moving on to placement and elimination rounds.
