Round 2 action of the 2016 Rio Olympics Men’s Golf competition will take place on Friday, August 12.

The 2016 Rio Olympics is playing host to the first Olympic golf competition since 1904, and the action got off to a hot start on Thursday. Australia’s Marcus Fraser is the leader going into Round 2 after posting an incredible 8-under 63 during first round action. He opened up a three-shot lead over the next best round, but will have to stave off a loaded field if he wants to win the gold medal.

Sweden’s Henrik Stenson is currently in a tie for second place with Canada’s Graham DeLaet, after both golfers shot a 5-under 66 on Thursday. Stenson is coming off his best finish of his career, when he set a major championship record with a score of 264 at the Open Championship. It was the Swede’s first major title, and he has now put himself in contention to put a gold medal around his Claret Jug.

The biggest highlight of the day, however, came from from Justin Rose, who had a hole-in-one during his first round. Teeing off on the par 3 fourth, Rose found the cup and made Olympic history. Rose finished the day tied for fourth place after shooting a 4-under 67.

Of the four American golfers in the competition, only Matt Kuchar shot under par on Thursday, Patrick Reed (+1), Bubba Watson (+2), and Rickie Fowler (+4) will all now have to make up some serious ground if they want to challenge for an Olympic medal.
