Olympics Women’s Basketball: Spain vs Senegal

After three games in the Olympics women’s basketball competition, it’s now essentially come down to everyone chasing Team USA. Every other team is simply trying to show they belong in the same conversation. On Friday as Day 7 of Rio 2016 comes along, though, two teams with a loss to the United States will meet. Spain and Senegal will square off, however, both teams will have different hopes coming into the matchup. What’s clear, though is that the result could greatly affect the Olympics women’s basketball competition.

Spain has looked quite good at times in the competition in Rio. They opened up their play at Rio 2016 in with a win over a hard-nosed Serbia team. While the loss to the United States followed in their second game, Spain held their heads high still. In doing so, they were able to bounce back for a big win over China. The hope sure is now that they’ll keep rolling and be able to cruise past Senegal on Friday.

On the other hand, Senegal has had less of a good time at Rio 2016 with their results. They opened up the competition by getting run off the floor by the Americans. That was followed up by getting destroyed by China as well. However, they put up a fight against Canada before ultimately losing again. Now 0-3, Senegal are in danger of being eliminated from the knockout rounds if they lose to Spain. It would be an upset if they were to win, but it’d be necessary.
