2016 Rio Olympics women’s basketball results from Friday, August 12 on Day 7 of the Games

Only three days remained in the preliminary round of the 2016 Rio Olympics women’s basketball competition entering Friday. Not only did that set the stage for some drama on Day 7 of the Games, but it also amped up the drama. Group B took the floor on Saturday to try and jockey for position in the standings. With a slate that included a huge matchup between Team USA and Canada, it was a great day of hoops in the Olympics women’s basketball competition.

Day 7 in the event started off with Serbia facing China in an intriguing matchup. Always dogging opponents, though, China put up one hell of a fight against the Serbs. The outcome was in question for the majority of the affair, but ultimately is was the Serbian team pulling through. However, Serbia still couldn’t overtake China in the Group B standings. They still sit on the outside of the top-four with only one game remaining.

USA Basketball took the stage next in the marquee matchup against Canada. The matchup lived up to the hype early on with neither team being able to get any leeway. When the United States turned on the pressure defensively, though, it was essentially all over for the Canadians. After allowing only six points in the second quarter, Team USA never looked back. They remained perfect in Rio and atop Group B in the standings.

Capping off the night in Olympics women’s basketball was Spain taking on Senegal. Mismatch would be the kindest way to describe this game as Spain has looked fantastic in this tournament. Contrarily, Senegal has looked outmatched almost every time out. That was the case at least on Friday as Spain shellacked Senegal to pick up the win. Spain now sits second in Group B, eyeing a medal in their future.
