On Sunday, the Miami Marlins announced that Giancarlo Stanton will miss the remainder of the 2016 season. Here is why they should sign Alex Rodriguez to replace him.

Friday night was a special one for Alex Rodriguez in the Bronx. Playing in his last Major League Baseball game as a member of the New York Yankees, Rodriguez doubled in a run in his first at-bat. It was a fitting end to the Yankees career for A-Rod, who has been a lightning rod for New York since he was signed in 1994.

On Sunday, the Miami Marlins lost the biggest bat in their lineup, when it was announced that Giancarlo Stanton was done for the year. Stanton suffered a severe groin injury on Saturday, and will now see his season end early for the second straight year. Last season, Stanton was hit in the face by a fastball in September, ending his season.

The impact that Stanton has to the Marlins lineup is unmatched. He is the biggest run producer, their best power bat, and despite a month and half long slump, has 25 home runs this season. Miami is already without one of their power bats, first baseman Justin Bour, and will now have 42-year old Ichiro patrolling right field everyday.

The Marlins are still in contention for the National League Wildcard, so they cannot do nothing now that Stanton is out. They have to make a move to improve their lineup, and a recently released Alex Rodriguez could be just what they need to stay in the hunt. Rodriguez still has the power to make an impact, and the Marlins would be a perfect fit for him.

Now that Stanton is gone for the year, Miami Marlins president of baseball operation, Michael Hill said Rodriguez will be given consideration. Bringing Rodriguez home makes sense for a lot of reasons, and we dive into the top five.
