MLB Rumors: 5 teams Yasiel Puig could restart his career with
2. New York Yankees
What would a rumor mill be without a bit of Yankee involvement? And while usually, they are placed into most discussions revolving around big name talents that could be relocating, there is a more specific need that Puig could fill in New York moving ahead.
The Yankees are currently in the midst of attempting to move out aging contracts, as well as give the younger talents they have recently accumulated a shot as well. With both Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury being in their age 33 seasons next year, they could be next on Brian Cashman’s chopping block. Prospects Clint Frazier, Ben Gamel and Aaron Judge are due for auditions before the end of this season and could be in line to make it be a very competitive spring training next year for the Bombers.
However, far be it from the Yankees to not capatilize on an excess of talent available. While they have been reticent to part with many prospects of value as of late, Puig fits the Yankees’ current situation from a need perspective, with Carlos Beltran recently traded off and Aaron Hicks having a horrible season at the plate.
What more, is that a rejuvenated Puig could be a big ticket item to make the turnstiles move in Yankee Stadium. And if there is one team that is both capable and experienced in the art of dealing with historically difficult talents, it is the Yankees.
