After some shocking results and fantastic games throughout the Games, the pressure heightens a great deal. Starting off the day and the knockout rounds in field hockey will be Spain vs Argentina at 9 a.m. ET. Spain emerged out of Group A in second place after strong showings throughout. So the question is if they’ll be at that level or if Spain will prevail.
Belgium vs India follows that first match, beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET. This Belgium squad ran through Group A in emphatic fashion to earn 12 points and a top seed. India experienced a much different road, clawing their way into the standings to get the fourth seed. Belgium has the clear advantage here, but stranger things have happened.
After a break in the early afternoon, Netherlands and Australia face off at 5 p.m. ET. The former finished second in Group B after a solid performance throughout. However, Australia showed plenty of fight in their own right and won’t just lie down for the Dutch squad.
Capping off the men’s quarterfinals in field hockey will be Germany taking on New Zealand. While New Zealand fought to get into the four seed in Group A, Germany was dominant in winning Group B. So, the question remaining is if that will matter when these two teams take the field.
