A new era undeniably begins on Sunday night for the San Francisco 49ers. After his tenure in Philadelphia, Chip Kelly resides now on the sidelines in San Francisco. The lauded offensive mind will now try to resurrect the lifeless heap once known as the 49ers. No one quite knows how this is going to work immediately. However, fans will get a preview as both the Niners and Houston Texans begin their respective NFL preseason slates by facing off at Levi’s Stadium.
Kelly has yet to make the biggest decision before him with the 49ers. Eventually, he must choose a starter at quarterback between Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert. However, both guys will split the first team reps on Sunday night against the Texans. In the meantime, fans may look for what Carlos Hyde may be in a Chip Kelly offense. Additionally, seeing the 49ers defense in action with the nice pieces they have will be intriguing as well.
The Texans might garner even more intrigue, though. Not many teams experienced the massive influx of new talent that Houston did this offseason. Brock Osweiler will make his first start at quarterback for the Texans. Meanwhile, Lamar Miller will be behind him in the backfield. It should be a completely revamped offense, which will garner a ton of attention. Though JJ Watt remains out of action for the preseason, there’s still plenty to watch for with Houston.
