3. Carlos Gomez

If the Miami Marlins are in the business of a boom or bust scenario, Carlos Gomez is the guy that they need to go after. It’s hard to believe that it was just a year ago that Gomez was one of the top players on the trade market. To land a player of his caliber took top prospects and multiples of them to get the two-time All-Star.

Now, he’s been designated for assignment by the Houston Astros and he is scuffling. If there’s a realistic option out there fore the Marlins, Gomez might be the guy that they can get their hands on. Someone else might try to snag him before they can, but they should be doing what they can to land him.

When Gomez is right, he’s a dynamic player that can do it all and impact a game. He hasn’t been that guy this year and that led to his designation for assignment. Still, history shows that this is more of an off year for him rather than a pattern.

Perhaps the chance of scenery could go a long way for a player like Gomez. Having in Miami would give him the fresh start and he would be looked upon as the guy. It might be too much pressure, but it’s a great spot to start anew and a real option for Miami.
