Team USA have looked virtually unbeatable throughout the 2016 Rio Olympics women’s basketball preliminary round. They went undefeated in those five group stage games and only Serbia managed to get within 30 points when the final buzzer sounded. However, everything changes with the start of the quarterfinals, so USA vs Japan on Tuesday afternoon can’t be something the Americans take lightly.

From the jump, the talent advantage for Team USA is near unfair. The size they boast in their starting lineup with Brittney Griner and Tina Charles is unmatched, as is the experience and skill of Diana Taurasi and Maya Moore. As if that wasn’t enough to make the United States the favorites, their bench is good enough to where they could likely win a silver medal if they were another team. Elena Delle Donne, Sylvia Fowles, and Breanna Stewart are all stars and all matchup nightmares for any reserves that they come off of the bench to face.

Japan is certainly no slouch as they were among the three teams in Group A that finished with eight points at 3-2. Captain Asami Yoshida has run the show for the Japanese women at the point and done so exceptionally well. It’s going to be difficult to go to work against the lethal defense of Team USA, but Yoshida has shown she can at least put forth a valiant effort.
