According to a report, NBA veteran Jason Terry may be closing in on a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Nothing says “mid-August” like the final second- and third-stringer free agents signing their deals to close out the summer, and that includes 17-year veteran and one-time NBA champion Jason Terry.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the soon-to-be 39-year-old shooting guard is closing in on an agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks.

If the Bucks were to finalize a deal with Terry, that would put their roster at 14 players. According to Basketball Insiders’ Eric Pincus, Milwaukee no longer has the cap room to sign him, but it does have the Room Exception.

Heading into his 18th season, Terry has little to offer Milwaukee from a basketball standpoint. Last year with the Houston Rockets, the Jet averaged the lowest numbers of his career, posting 5.9 points and 1.4 assists in 17.5 minutes per game. His shooting numbers also dipped to 40.2 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from three-point range.

However, even for a team like the Bucks with a talented, on-the-rise trio of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Jabari Parker, Terry could offer a wealth of veteran experience to the youngsters — especially the Greek Freak, who will function as the team’s starting point guard.

Terry also addresses a position of need, since Milwaukee’s only guards at this point are Giannis (technically), Matthew Dellavedova, the unproven Tyler Ennis, second-year guard Rashad Vaughn and rookie Malcolm Brogdon.

Originally drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 1999, Terry spent most of his prime with the Dallas Mavericks playing in a sixth man role alongside Dirk Nowitzki. He’s spent the last two years with the Houston Rockets.

The Jet’s prime years are clearly behind him, but he could fill spot duty in the backcourt for a young team whenever a more seasoned touch is required.

Terry is a career 37.9 percent shooter from three-point range, he has championship experience from his time with the 2011 Mavericks and he’s renowned as one of the league’s better teammates. At the very least, he’ll provide the locker room with a high character example to follow.
