Live stream information and how to watch the Olympics men’s triathlon online and on television on Thursday, August 18.

It may be the 15th day of the 2016 Rio Olympics, but for the Olympics triathletes the games are just getting started and they only have one chance to win a medal.

The Olympics men’s triathlon begins on Thursday, August 18, with the men’s triathlon. The event takes place at Fort Copacabana, providing a scenic course for the run, swim, and bike ride. The triathlon follows the Olympics format with a 1.5 kilometer swim, a 40 kilometer bike ride, and a 10 kilometer run.

While the best chances for a medal in the Olympics triathlon come from the United States women, it is worth mentioning that 2012 London Olympics triathlon gold medalist Alistair Brownlee from Great Britain is returning to defend his gold medal at the Rio games. He’s joined by his brother, Jonathan, who completed the 2012 Olympics triathlon and won a bronze medal.

Many people in world triathlon circles suspected that the Brownlee brothers would face fierce competition from the 2012 silver medalist, Javier Gomez. He has been busy since London, winning the World Championships in 2013, 2014, and 2015, adding to the titles he already won back in 2008 and 2010. Unfortunately, Gomez was forced to withdraw from the Olympics after breaking his arm in a cycling accident.

Along with the defending medalists from Great Britain, Team Spain is also heavily favored to win a medal with triathletes like Mario Mola and Fernando Alarza.

Rio’s Fort Copacabana offers an attractive course for the triathlon; the only potential issue is the weather. The temperatures have been high, with gusty winds that have wreaked havoc on other events. There is also the issue of high humidity on the roads that wind through Rio’s lush rainforests, which led to slippery conditions during the road races.
