If new reports are accurate, it’s possible Josh Brown has been downplaying the severity of domestic violence accusations against him.

The National Football League suspended New York Giants kicker Josh Brown for the season opener on Wednesday, though there was no clear reason why. Later, it was revealed that he was arrested in May of 2015 for domestic violence. Court records showed he grabbed his wife’s wrists as she grabbed the phone to call the police.

He was charged with fourth degree domestic violence, which is a misdemeanor.

However, according to his now ex-wife, that was not the only incident. Molly Brown told police when he was arrested that he had been violent with her more than 20 times. In fact, days before the incident, 911 tapes show that he was apparently violent with his 16-year old stepson.

Despite all this, Brown is upset with the league’s decision to suspend him for the season opener. Brown says that it was “just a moment,” but he will respect the league’s decision. He said his focus in now on his three kids and the rest of the Giants schedule.

“My major concern is my three kids and the things that are put out there and the things that are being said,” Brown, the Giants’ veteran kicker, said Thursday after practice. “The case was dropped five days after the moment happened, and we’ve moved forward with our lives at this point. While I’m not OK with the decision, I have to respect it. I look forward to a 15-game season and moving forward with my teammates.”

Brown, a 14-year veteran, signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Giants in April.

The Giants will open up their 2016 schedule on the road against the rival Dallas Cowboys. The Giants are expected to be contenders in the NFC East, boasting some of the better offensive weapons in the division.
