Team USA is going to the finals to defend their 2012 London gold medal. They play Italy for the 2016 Rio gold medal on Friday.

The semifinal match between Hungary and the United States was every bit as intense as the final score suggests. The United States were in control throughout the entire match, but Hungary fought hard, bringing the score within two points on several occasions. Now the United States and Italy will play for the gold while Hungary and Russia battle for bronze.

Monday marked the start of the Olympics water polo women’s quarterfinals. The United States women have remained perfect in the preliminary rounds, and they stayed that way as they took on winless Brazil in the first match of the day, winning 13-3. Brazil’s three points came in the fourth quarter when Team USA started rotating its starters out and allowing the younger members of the team to get in the pool.

On Saturday, the United States defeated Hungary 11-6 on the third day of the women’s Olympics water polo tournament, staying perfect for the tournament. Brazil and China remained at the bottom of the leader board.

Team USA had a strong showing in Rio on day two of the women’s tournament in defense of their gold medal title from 2012, defeating China in a 12-4 rout. Italy (Group A) and the United States (Group B) remained perfect in the preliminary round, while Brazil and China had yet to pick up a win. Australia, Russia, Hungary and Spain all had two points each.

Team USA dominated in the first day of the women’s Olympics water polo preliminary tournament on Tuesday, as they came out 11-4 over Spain. The Team USA women are defending their gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics, where they met Spain in the gold medal match. Their rout of Spain is a great start to the tournament for Team USA.
