Results from the Olympics men’s 10m platform diving preliminaries that were held on Day 14 of Rio 2016 on Friday, August 19

Only three days remain in the 2016 Rio Olympics and only two days are left in the Olympics diving events. All that remains is the Men’s 10m Platform diving competition, which got underway with the preliminaries on Friday, August 19. Though there were clearly divers who separated themselves from the competition, it’s clear that anything could happen moving forward.

The top 18 scores would qualify the diver for the medal round on Saturday. Subsequently, there was a great deal of pressure on the 28 men diving on Friday in the prelims to be on top of their games.

Leading the way on Day 14 of the Games was Thomas Daley of Great Britain. The accomplished diver submitted a total score of 571.85. His impressive mark was enough to beat out both Bo Qiu and Aisen Chen of China, both of whom are looking for medals in this competition.

Another recognizable name came in fourth place, but well behind the top three finishers in the preliminaries. American David Boudia submitted a score of 496.55. While he comfortably advance, there is room for improvement that he’ll be looking to fill with hopes of medaling.

Only one other diver from the United States qualified and he just barely made it. Steele Johnson qualified as the 18th and final diver to make it into the field for the semifinals. He submitted a score of only 403.75, but somehow that was just enough to push him through.

Now it’s onward and upward for the semifinals and final that will be held on Saturday, August 20. The semifinal will get underway at 10 a.m. ET while the final will then take place at 3:30 p.m. ET. From the looks of what happened in the prelims, expect anything and everything to go down from the 10m platform.
