When is the gold medal men’s basketball game between the United States and Serbia at the 2016 Rio Olympics?

After a very rough preliminary round, the United States men’s basketball team will be going to the gold medal game at the 2016 Rio Olympics. They will square off against Serbia on Sunday August 21 starting at 2:45 PM Eastern Standard Time. Team USA beat Spain 82-76 to earn their spot in the gold medal game. Serbia beat Australia 87-61 to advance to face Team USA.

Team USA is obviously the team with more talent. Even without LeBron James, Chris Paul, and Steph Curry, the United States still has Kevin Durant, Paul George, Kyrie Irving, and Carmelo Anthony to lead them. Their depth is very impressive.

However, they haven’t always played well as a team. Team USA has not always played strong defensively and it took them a while to get things going in that regard. But they have played much better in the medal round. If they can continue to play well on defense and do enough on offense, that should be enough to get a gold medal.

Serbia should be able to challenge the United States. They lack the firepower and talent of Team USA, but they have chemistry. Most of the players have been playing with each other for many years. They also play extremely strong defense, something that you must do to have an optimal chance of beating Team USA.

The gold medal game is going to come down to defense. If Team USA plays the kind of defense that they are capable of playing, they will most likely win. However, they can’t look past Serbia. They are a very tough team. As fans have seen so many times, in the Olympics, talent is not always enough to win a gold medal. You need chemistry and heart as well. Serbia has both.
