#LochteGate has taken another turn, as Ryan Lochte has finally apologized for not being ‘candid’ about the robbery incident.

Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps have been battling in the pool for nearly 15 years. Though, more often times than not, the result ended up with Phelps getting the better of Lochte. This was no different this year in Rio, as Phelps outclassed Lochte once again.

Now, after being known as the guy who always seems to lose Phelps, Lochte has found himself as the marquee name in a very controversial story with a lot of twists and turns. It began with Lochte and three teammates claiming that were robbed at gunpoint after leaving a party. The swimmers stood by their story even as many doubts about the authenticity of it began to arise.

The three swimmers were ultimately detained, Lochte had already left the country by the time the judge’s order was handed down. That was followed quickly by the release of security video of the swimmers’ at a Rio gas station. Instead of being robbed, the men actually got into a fight at a gas station, and did some meaningful damage to it, which led to them making up the robbery story to try to save face.

Then came the report that said that Ryan Lochte and fellow Team USA swimmer Jimmy Feigen have now been indicted for false reporting of a crime. Now, Lochte has finally apologized, posting a three paragraph apology on Twitter. He seemingly left his other three U.S.A teammates out to dry when he fled Rio early and he had them take all of the flack for the fabricated story he seemed to be the ring leader of in initiating.

In his apology Lochte states “I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend–for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events.” In order words, Lochte is finally owning up to lying about the robbery. With Lochte already being 32 and likely at the end of his career, it might be best for Lochte just to call it quits and stay out of the spotlight for a while.
