Olympic Boxing results for August 20 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In Saturday’s Rio 2016 Olympics Boxing results, medals were on the line. The United States was able to capture silver for the men’s bantamweight category. Shakur Stevenson of Team USA lost a close fight to Cuba’s Robeisy Ramirez Carrazana in the gold medal fight.

Ramirez was able to defeat Stevenson with a split decision 2-1. With the win, Ramirez, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, edged the American in a thrilling match. With Stevenson taking silver for the U.S., it bumped the overall medal total up to 107 medals. 36 of those have been silver medals.

According to CBS Sports, Stevenson was emotional over the final results. Following the fight, he was quoted as saying, “I’m hurt. I had to make it clear. I like all my fights to be clear victories. I felt he got his victory. Much respect to him.”

Also on Saturday, the women’s flyweight medals matchup took place. Great Britain’s Nicola Adams took home the gold in that category with Sarah Ourahmoune of France taking silver. Adams won by unanimous decision 3-0.

Another medal fight was also scheduled for Saturday. Arlen Lopez of Cuba and Bektemir Melikuziev of Uzbekistan were set to battle in a men’s middleweight medal matchup at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Lopez was able to capture the gold via a unanimous decision 3-0. Melikuziev finished with a silver for his efforts at the Summer Games.

Lopez, age 23, has already captured several other gold medals during 2015 events. They included the World Amateur Championships in Doha and the Pan American Games in Toronto. However, it’s likely that none compare to the gold in Rio.

It was a big day overall for the nation of Cuba. In the middleweight bout, it was Cuba taking their second gold medal of the day in the sport. Overall, it made for three gold medals in the sport of boxing for the nation of Cuba, giving them 11 total medals including five gold, two silver, and four bronze.
