The final four canoe and kayak events of the 2016 Rio Olympics finished up on Saturday, as the Olympians competed in the medal finals.

The last of the canoe and kayak sprint events at the 2016 Rio Olympics had their finals on Saturday. In the first event, Great Britain’s Liam Heath won gold in the Men’s kayak single 200m. Heath, who had the best time in Heat 1 during the preliminary round, posted a time of 35.19s. France’s Maxime Beaumont was the fastest in Heat 2 during the prelims, but he could not outlast Heath. Beaumont won the silver medal, finishing with a time of 35.36s.

Spain’s Saul Craviotto Rivero, who won the silver medal in this event during the 2012 London Olympics, grabbed the bronze. Rivero was a favorite to take the gold on Saturday but fell short with a time of 35.66s. Ronald Rauhe of Germany had the same time as Craviotto, and he too will receive a bronze medal.

The second final of the day was in the Men’s canoe double 1000m, and there was little surprise to who won medals. Germany’s duo of Sebastian Brendel and Jack Vandrey were supposed to dominate this event, and they did just that. The two posted a time of 3:43.91, which was a second better than the silver medal winner. The Brazilian team led by Isaquias Queiroz dos Santos finished in second, and Taras Mishchuk and Dmytro Ianchuk of Ukraine took the bronze.

For Brendel and dos Santos, the medals won in the Men’s canoe double 1000m cap off an incredible Olympics for both men. Brendel won the gold medal in Men’s canoe single 1000m as well. dos Santos also won silver in the Men’s canoe single 1000m and won a bronze in the Men’s canoe single 200m.

In the final women’s kayak event of the 2016 Olympics, the women competed in the Women’s kayak four 500m. The Hungarian team led by Danuta Kozak took the gold medal, capping off an incredible Summer Games by Kozak. Kozak won the gold medal in the Women’s kayak single 500m, and double 500m, giving her three golds for the Olympics.

Germany took home the silver medal, as Tina Deitze and Franziska Weber ran their medal total to two a piece. The duo won the silver in the Women’s kayak double 500m as well. Bronze went to Belarus, who had the second-fastest time in the preliminary race. The biggest surprise of the competition was Denmark, who finished sixth out of the eight countries.

The last canoe and kayak sprint event of the Rio Olympics was the Men’s kayak four 1000m, and just like in the Men’s canoe double 1000m, Germany won the gold medal. The foursome of Max Hoff, Max Rendschmidt, Marcus Gross, and Tim Liebscher was just too much for the rest of the competition. With the win, Rendschmidt and Gross finished their Olympics with gold medals this event, as well as the Men’s kayak double 1000m.
