DeMarcus Cousins is now an Olympic champion and had no problem rubbing it in at Sacramento Kings general manager and Serbian native Vlade Divac.

After helping the United States of America win Olympic gold for the third straight Olympiad in Men’s Basketball, ESPN’s Marc Stein asked Team USA’s and Sacramento Kings star center what he was going to say to his general manager and Serbian basketball legend Vlade Divac after beating Serbia in the gold medal game. Cousins was frank and gave Stein the following remark “Told you so.”

Cousins was huge in the United States’ crushing 96-66 win over Serbia in the finals. Nobody doubts how impactful Cousins can be on the hardwood as arguably the most complete center in the NBA today. However, his on-court behavior in the midst of perpetual chaos in the Kings organization has made it hard for him to win in Northern California.

Cousins’ remarks guided at Divac are probably in good spirit, as Cousins almost certainly knows how important of an international Divac was in the 1980s and 1990s for first Yugoslavia and then Serbia.

Maybe Cousins and Divac can use this 2016 Rio Games finals match as a bouncing off point for their basketball relationship in Sacramento? No doubt Cousins is the best player on the Kings and it is Divac’s job to surround Cousins with the right mix of talent on the hardwood.

The Kings will open brand-new Golden 1 Arena in downtown Sacramento this year. That should keep the Kings’ faithful satisfied for a while, but keep in mind that the Kings have not been to the Western Conference Playoffs since 2006. Sacramento faces an uphill battle entering the 2016-17 NBA season in the deep Western Conference.
