Brazil beat Italy in the gold medal match to close out the men’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The Brazilian men’s volleyball team sent a frenzied crowd home happy on the final day of the 2016 Rio Olympics with a sweep over Italy in the gold medal match.

Brazil looked to be in control early with a 25-22 first set win. The second set was neck-and-neck the entire way, but an Italian service fault on set point allowed Brazil to tie things up and eventually win 28-26.

Once again, the two teams were within a point for nearly the entire third set. After failing on its first gold medal point, a huge block gave Brazil the 26-24 win to complete the sweep.

Wallace de Souza tallied another 20 points and was the best player of the tournament for the hosts. The victory marked the third gold for Brazil after it won silver at the past two Olympics, while Italy now has three silvers and three bronzes all-time.

Team USA rallied from the devastating loss against Serbia to claim bronze with a five-set win over Russia. As was the case earlier in the tournament, the United States piled up errors and fell way behind after losing the first two sets 25-23, 25-21.

This time it was the Americans’ turn to rally. Team USA got some seperation midway through the third, led by veteran Reid Priddy off the bench, winning 25-19.

Another U.S. 25-19 victory in the fourth set up a winner-take-all fifth set. The United States won its second bronze to go along with three golds, holding off Russia 15-13.
