WWE SummerSlam 2016 results: Dean Ambrose vs Dolph Ziggler full video highlights
Results and full highlights from Dean Ambrose vs Dolph Ziggler for the WWE World Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2016
Dean Ambrose has been a ball of fire since winning the WWE World Championship. However, he would be up against his most fiery challenger to date (not that he’s had many) at WWE SummerSlam 2016. Dolph Ziggler has been trying to prove again and again that he’s good enough to be the guy. On Sunday night at Barclays Center, he got that opportunity.
There was no love lost right from the start between these two guys and the challenger took the fight right to the champ. Even when the action spilled to the outside, Dolph was unafraid to deliver a massive swinging neckbreaker that left Ambrose laying. However, the champ is just that for a reason, and had a response back in the ring with a massive backbreaker to regain control.
Ambrose from there was the aggressor and quite dominant in doing so. He wore down Ziggler with submission work. Moreover, he also landed some big high-risk offense to further debilitate the challenger. Dean got a bit too high risk, though, as he tried to go up for what looked like a crossbody and was met by a massive dropkick.
While Dean tried to fight back after that, Dolph was able to hit a big DDT to regain control of the match. Ziggler from there had all the momentum. Even when the champ would try to come at him, he had a counter and then offense of his own waiting.
The real turning point in the match, though, came when both men looked for a big clothesline and ended up taking one another out. That left the match as a stalemate at that point, which Ambrose was able to break with big clotheslines and a nice running bulldog. But even that only lasted but so long before both men were sent flying to the floor.
Back in the ring after a near-countout, Ambrose blocked a Superkick to then try Dirty Deeds. Ziggler countered that, though, then hitting the Zig-Zag—but only for a two-count.
Still jockeying for any kind of advantage, the war went back to the top rope. Ambrose looked to fly again, but Dolph caught him. They were then hung up there, both men trying to make something happen. Ziggler thought he was ready to hit a huge Facebuster from there, but Dean stopped it. The champ then hooked the arms and hit Dirty Deeds for the win. Ambrose retains.
Here’s a look at the full highlights from this match:
This was a fine match, but left a bit to be desired. Perhaps the bigger question leaving this match, though, is what’s next for the champion and who will challenge him on Tuesday.
