WWE SummerSlam 2016 results: Finn Balor vs Seth Rollins full video highlights

What happened in the WWE SummerSlam match between Finn Balor and Seth Rollins for the new Universal Championship?

At WWE SummerSlam, Finn Balor and Seth Rollins contended for the new WWE Universal Championship. This had been announced on the first post-Brand Extension episode of Raw on July 25. Balor and Rollins have since had multiple run-ins, with The Demon King even being shown off as well.

So, what would happen in this match at SummerSlam? Who would become the first Universal Champion?

Balor quickly looked for the Coup de Grace and sent Rollins fleeing from the ring. Balor would target the legs of Rollins and look to take him out. However, Rollins began his offense with a suplex at ringside.

Rollins would throw Balor into the barricade. He continued his assault on Balor in the ring. Finn tried working his way back, but got hit with chops and shoulders to the gut.

Rollins hit a knee to the chin on Balor and a long frog splash across the ring.

Balor worked his way back with a DDT on Rollins. This got followed by multiple clotheslines and a flying forearm. Balor hit an elbow and a reverse DDT for a near-fall.

Rollins would get a triangle choke on Balor for about 30 seconds, until Balor got out of it. Rollins then launched Balor into the turnbuckle for a near-fall.

Rollins hit a knee to the face of Rollins and hit a small package driver for a near-fall. Balor would hit a double stomp to the back of the head.

After a Coup de Grace, Balor would win to become the first WWE Universal Champion.
