At Sunday night’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view, comedian Jon Stewart was a special guest for the New Day and helped them in their tag team match.

During Sunday night’s WWE SummerSlam, New Day rocked the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. At first, just two members of the tag team were available with Big E on the shelf due to “Ringpost-itis.” However, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods enlisted comedian Jon Stewart as an honorary third member.

Stewart would hit the ring ahead of the tag team champs and helped introduce them. He’d get the live crowd’s assistance with calling out Big E’s trademark lines. From there, Woods and Kingston made their entrance, played some notes on the trombone and got ready to wrestle.

The bout was a difficult one as they faced the team of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. With the titles on the line, Stewart played the role of ringside cheerleader. At one point, it looked to be over for the tag team champs, but Stewart slid into the ring and caused a distraction.

Stewart soon found himself in harm’s way, though. Gallows and Anderson managed to grab him before he could escape the ring and prepared to perform another surgery. As they pulled Stewart by his legs towards the ringpost, New Day’s theme music hit. Next, Big E charged down the ramp for the big save. The match ended up a DQ due to Big E’s interference, but he saved Stewart as well as the title belts while also extracting some revenge on the doctors.

It also made for the second-straight SummerSlam where Stewart got involved in a finish. This time around he seemed to take on the role of the “good guy,” helping out New Day. Last year, he may have had his share of fans and detractors as he cost John Cena a championship. He would later find out how painful the results of his actions were after receiving an Attitude Adjustment.
