Colin Kaepernick is doing everything to not win the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback job, including throwing shade at general manager Trent Baalke.

Colin Kaepernick isn’t doing himself any favors this preseason in trying to win the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback job. Dealing with a sore arm (at times called a dead arm), Kaepernick has missed both preseason games. In addition, Kaepernick hasn’t shown desire to compete with last season’s starter Blaine Gabbert, who too has dual-threat capabilities to run Chip Kelly’s high-octane offense.

To make Kaepernick’s chances for being the Week 1 starter even slimmer, he didn’t have the nicest words to say about 49ers general manager Trent Baalke.

Though Baalke has had his share of gaffes over the last few years, he was in the room when the 49ers hired Kelly as their next head coach. With Kaepernick’s skill set and the type of offense Kelly loves to run, it seems this pairing would be ideal for the 49ers.

Kaepernick has not been the same quarterback since former head coach Jim Harbaugh left the Bay Area. Incredibly, it was only a few years ago that this quarterback/head coach pairing made it all the way to the Super Bowl.

Kelly has the offensive mind to make great use of Kaepernick’s physical gifts. But if he’s not willing to compete with Gabbert for the starting job and doesn’t respect Baalke, then Kaepernick has to be on his way out.

The 49ers can afford to cut Kaepernick after this season. They will likely be armed with a high draft pick and tons of cap space. Perhaps they find a trade partner, and get something back for their disgruntled former star.
