31 sports stadiums most likely to be haunted
By John Buhler
22. Dodger Stadium
Dodger Stadium is the third oldest ballpark in MLB behind Fenway Park and Wrigley Field (more on them in a bit …), and it is the oldest MLB ballpark west of the Mississippi. It is truly iconic, and one of the few baseball stadiums unlikely ever to be replaced.
Built in 1962, Dodger Stadium has been home the National League West’s Los Angeles Dodgers for over 54 years. It’s one of baseball’s great pitcher’s ballparks, and has been home to 12 no-hitters and two perfect games over the years. If that isn’t spooky, nothing is.
The stadium’s construction displaced thousands of Mexican-American families in the Chavez Ravine. Those families, still understandably bitter about being forced out of their homes in the late 1950s, didn’t really embrace the Dodgers until Fernandomania swept the Greater Los Angeles Area in 1981, when pitcher Fernando Valenzuela helped the team to World Series victory over the New York Yankees. They have been one of the city’s favorite teams ever since.
The fact Dodgers Stadium is located where so many families used to live means there are a whole lot of poltergeists potentially interested in paying a visit. They may not be able to enjoy a Dodger Dog anymore, but they might be enticed by the opportunity to hear the sweet voice of Vin Scully for one final season.
