31 sports stadiums most likely to be haunted
By John Buhler
16. Yankee Stadium
As with the Boston Garden, had the New York Yankees still been playing at the Old Yankee Stadium instead of the new one, The House That Ruth Built would make a compelling case for No. 1 on this list.
The Yankees are the most decorated team in MLB with 27 World Series titles. Their most recent came in their first year at New Yankee Stadium in 2009. Within a year, long-time owner George Steinbrenner passed away.
Steinbrenner isn’t the only one that could be haunting Yankee Stadium, though. The amount of history tied to the great success of the Yankees is unlike anything else in American professional sports.
From Babe Ruth to Lou Gehrig to Joe DiMaggio to Thurman Munson, the Yankees boast some of the all time greats among their ranks. And there is no denying their supernatural presence still looms large over the ball club, especially at Monument Park.
Though the new stadium itself doesn’t have the history of the original, there is still a good chance some former Yankees’ spirits venture to the Bronx on summer evenings to watch their favorite team in pinstripes play ball.
