Cory Schneider will be rocking some patriotic goalie pads when he represents the United States in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

The World Cup of Hockey will be taking place in 2016 for the first time since 2004. It’s an exhibition hockey tournament between countries.

One of the goaltenders representing the United States is Cory Schneider of the New Jersey Devils. The Devils goaltender will show off his patriotism during the tournament by wearing quite possibly the best goalie pads ever.

Schneider is expected to be named the starting goaltender for Team USA, though Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Ben Bishop will certainly get his fair share of starts as well. With pads like those, the Americans can only hope that Schneider will get as much playing time as possible. Born in Massachusetts, Schneider will be representing the United States for the first time since the 2005-06 World Juniors.

The Devils gave up a lot to trade for Schneider. Since trading for him, Schneider has done his part to make them look smart for it. He has a .924 save percentage with the Devils over three seasons, allowing just 2.14 goals against per game. Schneider was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks, who chose to trade him over Roberto Luongo and would probably love to have that trade back.

Schneider will have to be at his best for the United States to win the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Their defense is not up to par with Sweden and Canada. While their forwards are good, they aren’t the best in the tournament either.

However, the United States does have a pretty deep goaltending tandem of Schneider, Bishop and Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings. Schneider and Bishop are both among the NHL’s best goaltenders while Quick has a lot of international experience.

If Schneider’s game matches his pads, the rest of the world is in for trouble.
