Charcandrick West

West led the team in rushing last year totaling 634 yards and four touchdowns on 160 carries and adding another 214 yards and a touchdown on 20 catches.  West was a pleasant surprise after joining the Chiefs as a UDFA out of Abilene Christian.

He hasn’t really done much to lose the job, but he’s clearly behind Ware and Charles as the season opens.  He had four carries for 35 yards in the Chiefs’ preseason opener, but he sat out the second preseason game with a troublesome elbow. He’ll sit again this week, but he looks to be on track to be available Week 1.

Ware is the preferred handcuff option for Charles, but West would also have value if the worst were to happen again to the Chiefs star running back. If Charles went down, I think both backups would end up being fantasy factors, but it’s fine to leave West on waiver wires until that happens.

Right now, West is actually going three running back spots ahead of Ware in the 19th round, but Ware has run ahead of Charc all preseason long.  If you have to pick one, grab Ware, but be ready to add West if the situation changes. The value of both backup Chiefs running backs definitely drops since Charles looks ready for Week 1 action.
