A man from a town near Manitoba robbed a beer store while wearing goalie gear.

Canadians can get pretty crazy about their hockey. Early on Monday August 22 in Russell, a small town in Manitoba, a man broke into a beer store while wearing goalie gear. He had an accomplice during the robbery, but his accomplice sadly did not dress to impress like his buddy. The duo were caught on tape by a security camera.

Since the robbery occurred early on Sunday, maybe the duo were just having a good time after a huge hockey game. The duo stole three cases of Budweiser from the store in Russell, which is about 217 miles (or 350 kilometers) away from Winnipeg.

“It was different,” Royal Canadian Mounted Police Corporal Brett Church said Thursday, via the Winnipeg Free Press. “I’ve never seen that before. Very bizarre.”

Sunday might not have been not the first time that the man in goalie gear struck the beer store. The store was also broken into the previous evening with two cases of beer being stolen. If he did break into the store both nights, the suspect did not wear his goalie gear on Sunday. The store owner noted that the man on Sunday was wearing a baseball hat.

Ironically, the suspect did not wear a goalie mask. He did, however, wear a toque over his face to avoid being recognized. Police are examining the video to see if they can recognize the jersey that was worn.

The weird part of all of this is that the suspect is wearing number 17 in the video — clearly not a number designated for a goaltender. However, he committed the robbery with a goalie stick in his hand, suggesting that he has to be a goalie (or at least that he can wield a goalie stick effectively).
