Rangers pitcher Jeremy Jeffress arrested Thursday night

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Jeremy Jeffress has reportedly been arrested.

The Texas Rangers acquired catcher Jonathan Lucroy and relief pitcher Jeremy Jeffress in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers just before the 2016 MLB trade deadline. Jeffress adds a unique arm to the Rangers’ already lethal bullpen. According to a recent report, Jeffress was arrested overnight on Friday August 26. He has been charged with DWI.

Jeffress was suspended twice for marijuana use as a minor league pitcher. While he was with the Kansas City Royals, Jeffress was charged with domestic violence but the charge was later dropped. Jeffress pitched on Thursday for the Rangers. It remains to be sen if he will face any discipline from the Rangers or the league for the arrest.

This could mean trouble from both the Rangers and Jeffress. Jeffress has a history and this arrest confirms that he might have some issues that he needs to deal with. Meanwhile, the Rangers must make sure that this incident does not distract them as they hope to win the American League West. While Jeffress has not been officially charged with anything yet, this is not an ideal situation for the former Brewers pitcher.

So far with the Rangers, Jeffress has allowed four earned runs in nine innings, giving him an ERA of 4.00. He has allowed seven hits and walked five batters while striking out six. Jeffress pitched four seasons for the Brewers with an ERA of 2.38 in 158 appearances. Before being traded to the Rangers, Jeffress had 27 saves for the Brewers in 2016.

Jeffress was originally drafted by the Brewers in the 2010 draft. He made his MLB debut with the Brewers in 2010 before being traded to the Royals during the 2010 offseason. Jeffress was later traded back to the Brewers in 2014 after a brief stint with the Toronto Blue Jays.
