A pair of Western Michigan football players were arrested after they robbed a female student in a dorm room.

Western Michigan may not exactly be a well-known team among fans of the top conferences, but in the MAC, they’re known very well.

They’re being picked by some to run away with their conference under the direction of head coach P.J. Fleck. Things are going pretty well for a school not typically known for football. Unfortunately now, they’re getting headlines for really bad reasons.

Ronald George and Bryson White were arrested after they allegedly used a semi-automatic gun and a knife to rob a female at an off-campus residence. Police found the pair in a car with weapons and cash.

Given the rash of male-on-female student crime that has occurred at colleges across the country, you’d think that two young backups might have smarter plans in mind: Work hard, make the team, and enjoy the opportunity they have. That won’t be the case for these two who have been suspended and aren’t listed on the roster.

Alas, the choices they made were poor, and there does not appear to be much hope for exoneration for them. Given that they were already found with cash and weapons in their car, they face not only their charges but the loss of their academic future as well. Per WWMT, coach PJ Fleck has said the players could very well be expelled:

“Having heard this news early this morning, I took action to immediately suspend both freshman players indefinitely. We expect to learn more about these allegations today. I’m extremely disappointed and want to assure the community that this kind of conduct is unacceptable and does not represent the values of this team or this university. The students will be held accountable to all University student- code, Athletic-student athlete and Football Code of conduct standards. Violations of these standards can lead to dismissal from the team and University.”

If found guilty, dismissal seems to be the only option. We all deserve a second chance, but not at the same university where a crime was committed. Here’s hoping these two learn from this and make better choices in the future.
