Ohio State has suspended wide receiver Torrance Gibson for the fall semester after he violated the student code of conduct.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are looking to have another strong season this year after finishing with a 12-1 record last season. That task just got a bit more complicated as redshirt freshman Torrance Gibson has been suspended for the 2016 season after violating the student code of conduct. Gibson spent the 2015 season as a redshirt to make the transition from quarterback to wide receiver.

A former five star prospect, Gibson was expected to play a huge role with the Buckeyes in 2016. He has shown a lot of promise as a playmaker, especially during Ohio State’s spring game in 2016. He’s a very athletic and at 6-foot-4, was expected to be one of Ohio State’s deep threats for the 2016 season.

It remains to be seen what Gibson did to violate the student code of conduct. It was likely severe since he was suspended for the entire season. ESPN had him ranked as the 16th best recruit going into last season. Without Gibson, Ohio State will have to hope that their current deep threats will be enough to help their offense improve.

Gibson had hoped to contribute last season despite making the transition from quarterback to wide receiver. However, he was a redshirt due to injuries. He has missed time recently in practices due to a lingering hamstring injury.

Without Gibson, the Buckeyes will turn to Jalin Marshall. Marshall finished second on the team with 477 receiving yards last season. Their leading receiver from 2015, Michael Thomas, is currently playing for the New Orleans Saints. They also lost Cardale Jones and Braxton Miller to the NFL Draft. Ohio State’s receiver depth seems much more shallow without Gibson on the team. Will they be able to overcome it?
