5 reasons Tony Romo needs to retire from NFL

2. Legacy
That last thing Romo wants to do is tarnish his legacy. Granted Romo has never won a Super Bowl, but what percentage of QBs do? Does Romo plan on playing well into his forties? I hope he doesn’t think he will be with the Cowboys that long. It’s my understanding that Jerry Jones drafted young Dak Prescott with the idea that he would eventually take over for Romo. It seems like the Dak Prescott era has officially begun. I just don’t see Romo sitting the bench or wearing a headset on the sideline.
His legacy is one of a player who was cold blooded, a late-game assassin, and a man who was trusted on to win games. Sadly, with his recent injury bug, Tony isn’t relied upon for much anymore, and that may be a sign of the future.
The Cowboys will have to look at his contract long and hard to see if he is still worth al that money. In 2016 he is owed 8.5 million; that number balloons to 14, 19.5 and 20.5 million the next three years of his contract. Does Tony want to go out as a guy who makes millions of dollars to watch the game from the sideline? I just don’t see a player of his level sticking around to ride the pine.
