You know fantasy football. You understand statistics. You’ve ranked the top five players by position in your mind already. But you’ve never seen them talked about quite like this.

One week left. Seven days from today, the NFL season officially begins. We’re all hoping our fantasy teams get off to a fast start, of course. The beauty of the fantasy football season is clear: each season bring new hope for a championship. When the Carolina Panthers visit the Denver Broncos one week from tonight, that hope becomes very real.

Last week we talked about “Mitigating Risk.”  Hopefully you’ve drafted with that theme in mind. Now it’s time to take a closer look at each specific position. We’ve predicted the top five end of season leaders at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, and defense. When the dust settles in January, these are the players who will rate at the top of their position in overall fantasy points.

These rankings are based on standard scoring leagues:  six points for all touchdowns, one point for every ten yards rushing/receiving, and basic team defensive scoring. With one week left to go before the season begins, it is time to outline your full season plan. Is your quarterback in our top five? Do you need to make a trade for a wide receiver (or two?) Have you secured a top five tight end for the season?

Welcome to the third installment of “Fifty Shades of Fantasy Football.” We’re veering off a bit from our regular format, but rest assured we’ll back to our regularly scheduled program next week.
