Tom Terrific is going to play in the Pats preseason finale. What!?

With the New England Patriots traveling to MetLife Stadium to cap off their preseason against the Giants, this fourth exhibition game might be more intriguing than most. Sources are reporting that Tom Brady, perhaps the greatest quarterback of all time, will get the start tonight. Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to sit and watch.

As we all know, Brady will be spectating for the first four games of the season after DeflateGate was finally resolved. Although the two-time MVP could use some reps before his suspension, many are arguing that Jimmy G probably needs them a little more. Roger Goodell’s punishment of Brady has made this final preseason scenario a bizarre one. Number 12 has not played in the fourth preseason game since 2011. He held snaps back in 2014.

This is certainly an interesting decision by Bill Belichick, but one that does make at least a little sense. Besides, is anyone going to challenge that guy? Brady has only recorded 16 snaps in the preseason thus far. With that in mind, it makes sense why the Hoodie would like to get Tom some additional work before his month-long hiatus. Those on the other side of the argument will ask if it is worth a potential injury. This comes after what we just saw happen to Tony Romo and Teddy Bridgewater.

I think at this point Belichick wants to protect his starter, who for the time being is Garoppolo. He trusts his 17-year QB to protect himself while compiling enough reps for the regular season. Brady’s suspension comes into full effect this Saturday, when he essentially needs to forget he plays football at all. All kidding aside, he will return to action Week 5 when New England faces Cleveland. Yes, the Browns still cannot catch a break.
