49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was booed as he walked out of the tunnel on Thursday night in San Diego

Avoiding the hot takes and opinions about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick has been impossible over the past week. It all began when the veteran player chose not to stand during the national anthem in protest for police violence. The backlash since has been great, though there has been a contingent of supporters as well. However, it’s felt like the angry ones have been the more vocal group in this regard.

I think it’s safe to say that the San Diego Chargers home crowd falls into that group of people.

Ahead of the 49ers taking on the Chargers in Week 4 of the 2016 NFL preseason, Colin Kaepernick simply went about his business. He ran out of the tunnel with his team to go warm up. However, as he stepped foot on the field, he was met by a chorus of boos from the fans in San Diego. To be clear, this wasn’t just one or two people expressing displeasure with the 49ers quarterback. This was what sounded like something close to everyone there showering him in boos.

There’s been no mistaking the fact that this story isn’t going away for quite some time now. You can generally gauge that type of thing when it comes to reactions from the public. And in this case, there have been far too many things said from both viewpoints for it to be disappearing. Of course, Kaepernick isn’t helping his case by doing things like wearing socks with officers depicted as pigs in the pre-game.

We’ll have to wait and see if Colin Kaepernick has any more protests waiting for the 49ers season. Moreover, we’ll have to see how crowds outside of San Diego react to him. Regardless of how things play out in that regard, though, it’s safe to say some feathers have been ruffled for now.
