Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson blew by the UNC-Charlotte defense for a 36-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the season

There are plenty of quarterbacks out of the ACC getting buzz coming into the 2016 college football season. Obviously Deshaun Watson is the first one that comes to mind as a Heisman Trophy favorite. However, one of the names that everyone should be watching is Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson. After an impressive—albeit inconsistent—campaign last season, Jackson could be a breakout star. He got that plight off to an impressive start on Thursday night.

With Louisville taking on the UNC-Charlotte 49ers, the Cardinals and Lamar Jackson came in as heavy favorites. The quarterback wasted little time showing why that was the case. After running for a handful of first downs throughout the drive, he was able to do just about whatever he pleased. At that point, apparently first downs weren’t enough to appease him. Instead, he decided to embarrass the Charlotte defense.

Jackson took off around the left corner of the line and diced up the 49ers defense. He made several guys miss before finishing off his 36-yard run with a step over the goal line. Not a bad (or quiet) way to start the first drive of the season for Louisville:

Make no mistake, Jackson isn’t a perfect player. He struggled with his accuracy at times last season and they need him to improve that. However, it’s his ability to make plays like this that make him so electrifying.

What’s more, the presence of Jackson makes you think that they could play spoiler in the ACC. Though 2016 is largely about Clemson and Florida State in the conference, Jackson and the Cardinals could cause problems. If you didn’t already know that, the quarterback just gave you a glimpse as to why that’s son.
